Mexico: lots of oil – no infrastructure May 13, 2008

Just to add to the pressure on the USA, and on Mexico itself, the 7th largest producer of oil in the world (and the closest to the USA) is struggling to make use of its reserves. Even worse, there is no investment into the oil industry, meaning that Mexican oil is becoming more expensive, and rarer, by the day. Although rising oil prices might make life more profitable for Permex (Mexico’s state oil company), lack of investment means that they cannot capitalise on this chance, and so an entire growth, investment and reward cycle might just pass them by. How this will affect the US is still to be seen.
