Mule does the impossible: gives birth August 4, 2007

Posted by Al in : bizarre, nature , trackback

It’s always been though impossible for mules to bear young, as they are a sterile hybrid created with one donkey parent and one horse parent. Having the wrong number of chromosomes means that mules should never be able to breed, however telling Nature something is impossible is like waving a rag at a bull – Nature just loves the impossible. The proof is now alive, and kicking, in Colorado and I’m waiting for a genetic assay to find out exactly how many chromosomes this foal has.
