Plen – a tiny robotic skate dude January 26, 2007

Once again I’ve stumbled across a creation that I would really love to own, but could never justify the cost of. Plen is a small robot who can rollerskate, skateboard, drop-kick, carry items and can right itself if it falls over. What’s more it looks cool whilst doing so. Unfortunately it costs $2,000, however if the dollar continues to depreciate the way it’s been going then I may be able to afford a Plen soon.

You can read about Plen here, and you can watch other videos here, here and here.

Just when you think robots had gotten about as good as they were going to get for a while another one pops up that is even better.
As soon as the AI catches up then robots are going to be totally viable as an every day solution to modern life.
Isaac Assimov’s vision of the future really does’nt seem that far away to be honest.

With robotic advancement accelerating as it is, the only real question now is: how long before we see robot soldiers on the battlefield and who’s going to use them first?
Not a comforting thought! Though it may mean a new career for online gamers as operators.
