If you can’t save them, kill them November 26, 2006
Posted by Al in : nature , trackbackA group of 80 Beluga whales are stuck in a frozen lake in Northern Canada, and it is now impossible to save them. Instead a group of hunters will be sent to kill them as they rise to the one blowhole they have left. Since this is Innuit territory, the whales will be hauled onto the surface and butchered to provide muktuk for the local, and not so local residents. I understand why this is being done, but the comments about regular anglers at the lake being concerned that the whales might reduce their fishing next year suggest that there may be more than one motive for this mission.
