LG – Pretty good customer service November 2, 2005

Further to my two previous posts (here and here) – I have finally received a replacement monitor. I rang LG again today and spoke to another helpful agent (after about 20 rings as he was by himself and very busy) who checked into where my missing monitor was. Turns out that my street name had been mis-spelt so Business Post didn’t despatch it yesterday, never mind as their depot is just up the road so I told LG man that I would collect it.

Arrive at Business Post to find out that the monitor is actually out on the van today, however they were very helpful and called the driver who was just about to go to my house (despite the incorrect street name – didn’t think that would matter). The driver aborted that and came back to the depot for me, and to allow him to tip his collections so far, so I just had to wait an extra 20 minutes. This wasn’t bad and they did give me a cup of coffee as well. Driver arrived, monitor arrived, I handed old monitor back and everyone was happy.

When I got back home and unwrapped the “new” monitor then it had obviously been used before as the rubber feet on the base were dirty. The rest of the chassis and the screen looked in good nick though so I connected it up and suddenly realised how much I had missed having a decent monitor. For the last week I’ve been working with a 15″ CRT monitor with a maximum resolution of 800 x 600, but this was cramped. To go back to 1280 x 1024 on a crisp screen is heavenly.

Overall I’d have to rate LG’s customer service around 8/10 – a bit more staff would help as it took almost an hour to get through today and yesterday I couldn’t reach them for the entire afternoon. I’m also not sure whether the fault actually did lie with Business Post when I didn’t get my monitor yesterday. However the service was still extremely prompt and with no quibbles at all. I’m only hoping that the fact I have a refurbished monitor now means that there was a fault with these models which has no been fixed. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
