The right to bear arms does not apply to individuals June 9, 2008
Posted by Al in : educational,weapons , trackbackAll this time Americans, and the rest of the world who cared, thought that the second amendment to the constitution of the USA gave citizens the right to bear arms – which is why there are so many guns in America. However, the Supreme Court has ruled, on several occasions, that this is not true, the right only exists if the individual can be shown to be part of a well regulated militia.
Does this mean that anything will be done about the prevalence of guns in America? I doubt it. Will it help to reduce gun crime? Probably not. Will knowing this fact make me feel smug and superior to the vast majority of Americans who both don’t know this and would reject it as wrong if they were aware of it? Yep!
