Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor October 2, 2007

This is possibly the best piece of music ever written, and when played by an expert organist, on a beautiful organ, is simply amazing. I have heard renditions with better expression, but this video shows the ability required of an organist – especially the footwork that you might not realise is required.

Alternatively, you could try this version which has better expression, a prettier organ, but lacks the volume (and so ultimate power) of the pedals. If you’ve ever experienced an organ rendition of his piece then you will realise that the deep bass notes of the pedals cause you chest to resonate enough to seriously move you – and without that volume and power an organ recital is not the same.
