Russia heading towards Nazism? July 29, 2007

It’s often been said that Communism and Fascism, although at the opposite ends of the political spectrum, are often closer than you’d imagine. And now Russia, although no longer Communist (but still bearing the scars of most of a century as THE leading Communist empire) is starting to exhibit signs of extreme nationalism that brings to mind the extremes of Germany in the 1930’s.

Although these Nashi are not wearing brown shirts, they are exhibiting extreme behaviours and are responsible for attacking a lot of the government’s current critics.

I have to stand back and look at the overall picture of UK-Russian relations at the moment, and wonder whether this piece has been specially produced, at this time, to get the British public to buy into any anti-Russian stories. However, I have an inkling that this might actually be true, and that Russia is desperately trying to get it’s population to grow, whilst also encouraging disciplined support from it’s younger citizens, which will hopefully continue into later life. I wouldn’t put much past Putin, who is obviously very clever, and was probably very well trained as a senior member of the KGB.
