Why we worry about the wrong things June 21, 2007

Another interesting article on how the media publicise dangers that are intriguing and exotic, whilst mostly ignoring dangers that are commonplace and so boring. A gun is so much more interesting than a swimming pool, yet more children die in a swimming pool than from gun related injuries; air crashes are more exciting than car crashes, and heart disease has nothing on bird flu. I tend to agree with this article and I think modern media focuses on the dramatic far more than on the realistic.
