A solar tower for solar power May 6, 2007

,This is a good idea. Spain has managed to jump into the lead of environmentally friendly power production with this wonderful solar tower. If currently produces 11MW of electricity, and hopes to increase this dramatically over the next few years.

What I found more interesting was the plan to introduce these solar towers on the Sahara, and then ship the electricity developed North to Europe. I think this would be a really good idea, particularly if the designers realised that this would produce cheap desalination at the same time. If they used sea water, as it was turned into steam, it would leave it’s salt content behind (which could then be sold on), and would instead turn into fresh water once the steam is condensed. This could then allow fresh, drinking water to be pumped around the area as well.
