Anti-sniper system being prepared April 28, 2007

I rather like the idea behind this device. A laser beam, which is invisible and harmless to the human eye, is sent out in pulses, and the reflections from sniper scopes is picked up as it returns. This allows snipers to be detected at a distance, and then “neutralised” if required. I’ve spent enough time being sniped in FPS games online to realise this would be a wonderful boon to any army. If it works then it might make urban guerilla warfare a more interesting prospect. Especially as the plans are for an automated device which can not only detect snipers, but also takes them out if required.
