The art of Rob Gonsalves – a little too clever March 20, 2007

Good painting should cause at least a small amount of emotion in the viewer, and although these paintings are very good, and very clever they fail to produce any emotion in me. I think they suffer from being just that little bit too clever, which takes away any thrill you may have when you look at them for the first time. If you look at Dali, Hieronymus Bosch or Escher then you get caught up in the picture itself, rather than in how clever the painter has been. You decide for yourself.
