Beckham to get paid how much? January 12, 2007
Posted by Al in : people , trackbackIt is really obscene how much top sports stars are paid these days. It happens in all major sports, but football (soccer to any Americans reading) has got to be the worst culprit. And now David Beckham is heading out to the States for a salary of £128m over 5 years. That’s 20, 000 times more than the average salary around where I live, just for going to the gym regularly and being able to kick a ball. To put that in perspective, if you were to work from the age of 16 to the age of 66 you would work 50 years; 50 years at £12,800 per annum gives a total income of £640,000 in an entire lifetime of work. Beckham will earn 200 times this amount in 1/10th of the time, so his income is 2,000 times more than an average worker – that’s quite a lot, really.
