Reinventing the nail for the good of mankind November 28, 2006
Posted by Al in : clever, design, home, interesting , trackbackWho would have thought that something as simple as the nail could be reinvented and improved to give twice the fastening capacity of an ordinary nail? I certainly wouldn’t, however that’s just what has been done. In fact the HurriQuake Nail is so impressive that Popular Science have included it in their Best of 2006, along with a good storey as well. Since someone has now reinvented the nail and become a minor celebrity I’ve decided to have a go as well – why not build houses out of bricks, rather than wood? It works for us over here in the UK, where we build nice strong houses. Considering we don’t have to put up with tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes then maybe we build our houses too strong. However maybe if the US tried building houses out of brick they wouldn’t keep getting knocked down.
