Unfortunately the world of science is possibly the most political of all academia – however this is not politics as you, or I know it, rather this is the politics of attending the correct conferences, appearing in the correct journals, and above all not rocking the boat too much otherwise you may be castigated. If you don’t believe me just read this story which features a man who challenged the current concept of how the brain works, and ended up doing what he wanted to do but without any financial or scientific backing. The fact he was right has nothing to do with how his work, and later work which backed him up, was received within the scientific community, especially those in his field. I found this a great read, I hope you do to.
