More messages to the future October 23, 2006
Posted by Al in : future, science , trackbackIf you were to write a message to the future – what language and alphabet would you use? Do you imagine that the English language and alphabet, which have only been around in their current form for a few hundred years, will still be commonly understood in a few thousand years? If we accept that we cannot accept that then what should we use instead? This is the problem facing the Waste Isolation Plant who have been told to provide markers capable of lasting 10,000 years to warn people away from their buried nuclear waste. An interesting problem and one I’m glad I don’t have to deal with.
