Want a cathedral? Why not build your own? October 22, 2006

This is one of those truly bizarre stories that the world turns up every now and then. A Spanish farmer, once almost a monk, has decided to build his own cathedral. It’s about halfway completed at the moment, although it has no planning permission at all. Not a single architect or designer has been willing to help so the design and plans are all Don Justo’s own, personal take on a cathedral. He couldn’t afford a crane and so the girders for the 40m high dome were lifted into place using pulleys and the strength of 6 of his nephews. The weirdness just goes on, and on, and you can read all about it here.
