Patent law is farcical September 25, 2006
Posted by Al in : interesting, nature, weird , trackbackA clever article by Michael Crichton (not a bad author by the way) on how patent law, particularly in the US, is completely farcical. It has now reached the point where pointing out a simple biological fact is against the law due to patent rights. I cannot see how companies can patent biological, or chemical, facts as these would have been present whether or not they were discovered or patented anyway. The world needs judges, and other governing figures, who are trained in science who can make a reasonable and reliable judgement on whether the work is justifiably patentable or not.
