9/11 changed building design in the US September 14, 2006

I quite agree with this piece on how 9/11 has had an impact on the design of buildings in the US. Apart from the obvious desire to make the building even more secure (easy  -don’t allow the CIA to plant bombs in them), there is also a desire to make prominent buildings more iconic, as people hadn’t realised how much the twin towers meant to New York until they were gone. I hope that this trend continues, and that more great designs are built, and built safely. I only have one reservation – has nobody pointed out yet that the designs displayed in this article are absolutely hideous? Iconic? – yes. Beautiful? – no!
