The Scuderi engine design has 2 cylinders running alongside each other – one does the compression stroke and one does the combustion. After watching the video embedded in this article all that will make more sense and you should be able to see where the advantages lie. I’m not quite sure what use the compressed air is put to in their hybrid design, but I can see the advantages of having compression and combustion separated and then run virtually simultaneously.
