The real batmen – super-senses are go! August 15, 2006
Posted by Al in : medical, science , trackbackThis is an unusual story which is also quite good to know. It appears that people who are born blind can develop echo-location which works in the same way as a bat’s sonar. The 14 year old kid in this story actually clicks, in much the same way a bat does, and can very accurately map his surrounding using this ability. And he’s not alone, there are others out there who can truly “see” the world using echo-location – the returning echoes activate sections of their visula cortex which then allows them to visualise their surroundings even though they have never been able to see. More power to them, is what I say. Although they may never be able to see what we with sight can see, they can “see” things we never can.
