A secret network of tunnels under Tokyo July 29, 2007

I like stories like this: where a lone reporter uncovers a secret that a national government would prefer remained a secret. It all sounds very plausible, and after seeing some pictures of the storm drains and sewers in Tokyo, I can imagine that there is an awful lot of underground space below one of the most crowded cities on Earth. Whether these tunnels are some form of nuclear protection for the royal family and government, or any other legitimate purpose, or whether they have another more dubious reason for existence is intriguing, but but I don’t doubt they are there.
