"The enemy of clear language is insincerity" May 30, 2007
Posted by Al in : educational , trackbackHow true a quote, the above title is. Whenever language starts to get tortuous, or arduous, it is probably because the author does not want to make their meaning clear. Instead, the author will use long winded phrases, and ambiguous words and terms, to avoid coming out with their intended meaning. Too many politicians, and broadcasters, and advertisers, and copy writers suffer from this affliction, and I’m sure I may have been guilty of it myself, at times. However, god grammar and punctuation, combined with accurate and decisive wording, can sometimes atone for previous errors, and in doing so help keep the English language alive, and well. Read this article, and see if you agree.
