Racism still rife in Louisiana May 29, 2007
Posted by Al in : politics, scary , trackbackI previously wrote a post about racism in Texas, and received a number of comments suggesting that the reports were biased, and didn’t give the full story, and that there really was no difference in justice meted out to white and black offenders. However, here’s another story of racism in the south of the USA, and in this case there does seem to be a real imbalance in the punishment of the offenders. It is also worrying that the town mentioned, Jena, also voted for an ex-Ku Klux Klan leader for their governor – so no racist bias there, then. Once again I am amazed at how hypocritical these folks can be, as I’m certain that they are all god-fearing Christians, and there was no mention of treating blacks differently from whites in the Bible – in fact I believe it mentions that all men are created equal and in God’s image.
There’s more on this here, and from the BBC here. My thanks to Arthur for bringing this to my attention – please spread this as far and wide as you can, and hopefully enough press coverage may shame the residents of Jena into re-evaluating their lifestyles.
