BBC opens up it’s archives April 19, 2007
Posted by Al in : clever, interesting,Internet , trackbackI remember blogging this a long time ago, and now the BBC are starting to open up their huge archives to the British public. I’m really gutted that I missed this trial, as I’d love to have been part of it, but I’m still glad to know that the BBC are standing by their word. They promised that they would make all their archived material available to the British public, and they intend on doing so: all TV and Radio shows they have archived in the last century will eventually be available for free to British users, and at a cost to anyone else around the world. The BBC have developed their own media player, the iMP, to deal with locating the user and charging accordingly. I think this is a wonderful idea, and will keep the BBC at the very cutting edge of public broadcast technology.
