How free is your press? October 27, 2006
Posted by Al in : politics , trackbackI was surprised, when viewing this table, to see that the United Kingdom was ranked a lowly 27th, alongside Lithuania. However, if you take the joint rankings into consideration then the UK comes in at number 11, which is better. Still not as good as being completely free, but at least we don’t imprison, torture and kill journalists over here. Finland is top in this league, and when you combine that with it being the world’s best economy as well, then it is at the front of the field if you are considering emigrating in the near future. I am seriously considering Hong Kong at some point in the future, but China’s human right’s record, and their ranking toward the bottom of this table, may just sway me away from such a move. We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out. In the meantime if your country is not ranked highly then why not raise this issue with your local MP, councilor, congressman, senator, or any other political figure, and ask them why they are so afraid of free speech?
